NetArchive [Advanced Software Concepts]

NetArchive is a network-based Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM), FileMigration, and Archiving system designed for heterogeneous computingenvironments. NetArchive reduces the need for more costly disk storagedevices as the free space on a disk is used. By moving targeted files toless expensive storage, the local disks are left available for storage ofneeded data. Anytime a migrated file is needed, NetArchive automaticallyand transparently restores the migrated file from storage vault. By usingNetArchive, the administrator is relieved of the tedious task of manuallymoving files from disk to backup media, and back to disk when the file isonce again needed.
